Evasion Bug out Bag (Part 3) – one minute survival tip
This time: How to shelter under evasion conditions.
For resting or sleeping you may need to seek a Shelter. But keep in mind: Concealment, not personal comfort is your primary concern-. You must select secure areas for refuge to avoid detection by the enemy. Another factor you must consider (since evaders are also survivors), is to protect yourself from the elements as much as possible:
Bivouac sack: With a Bivy sack (lightweight, compact) you can create a highly effective survival shelter that will help protect you from the elements in an emergency.
Tip: If you are in a survival situation with a bivy sack and it is very cold, you can stuff the sack with leaves, grass, cattails, moss, or paper to increase the insulation value and warm up faster.
Never assume you are free from the threat of enemy observation. Choose areas which are least likely to be searched. Choose natural concealment areas like small concealed caves, hollow logs, depressions, clumps of trees or thick vegetation.
In the event of impending discovery, you must be able to depart the area via at least one concealed escape route. You can deduce therefore, that the shelter area should never be in areas which may trap you if the enemy discovers the place of concealment.
Next Time: Encampment security system. Don´t miss it!
