Axe Only & Daypack Survival Trip Part 1 – Drive In & Map Nav

Over Labor day I headed out for a trip to hike in to a remote area of the Ochoco Mountains for a couple of days. The goal of the trip was to make the two day trip with only the gear that I would typically have with me on a recreational day hike. The Kifaru Scout pack is the pack I typically grab for a day hike. I usually always carry some survival basics any time I hike into the woods and this trip was just about testing my skills with that basic gear. Skills are usually perishable, and wilderness survival skills are no exception. I believe the more time I spend practicing survival skills, the better the chances are that I will survive in an actual survival situation.

Plus…It’s just damn fun to get out there and do stuff like this 😉

I knew surviving the night wouldn’t be comfortable, but I like to do trips like this a couple times a year just to keep the experience and practice fresh. I spend a lot of time in the outdoors so a scenario that causes me to spend an unexpected night out isn’t out of the question.
