For fast immediate filtered water

The best time to use it is when you have no other means of filtering water. This is the very least you can do to try and remove any particulate that may be harmful. It’s also useful if there are predators or animals in the water. Dry river or lake beds often have water below the surface so it’s also useful to think of digging a well when looking for water

Filtration is not always the same as purification, so if you have the means to chemically purify your water with chemicals or from naturally derived chemicals such as iodine this is also a very good layer of protection from harmful bodies. It’s always best to boil water after filtration if you have the means or time to do so.
